Portriat of Smithsonian Museum

I like taking photos of subjects that have more too them like the Smithsonian. Plain subject like the Washington Monument are hard in my opinion. I took several of the Washington Monument, but I didn't like them no matter how I tried to frame the photos.

Jefferson Memorial Photo from the Front

Here you can see that even in the early morning sun the front of the Jefferson Memorial doesn't get sun. As I talked about in Jefferson Memorial from the East, with the exception of possibly early mornings in June, the face of the Jefferson Memorial doesn't get any sun, so it is difficult to photograph. If you have seen pictures of the Jefferson Memorial with sun on the face of it, please leave a comment-thanks.

One of the difficulties of photographing the Lincoln Memorial is that the front of it faces northeast. So the sun never seems to be on the front of it, although a sunrise in June might get it some. That would be an attractive picture.

Jefferson Memorial Photo from the East with Ice Reflection

In this picture notice the water...that is ice. It breaks up the mirrored image some.

I also framed this picture with the branches over head. It would have been more attractive with leaves on them though.

Camera Lens Cleaning Tip

I was out taking pictures of the Washington, DC area today and didn't have anything with me to dust off my camera lens. Tissue paper is awful to use because it leaves so much lint behind. It makes you want to lick it and then us the tissue, but then you worry about streaks.

I had some Under Armor (actually Starter-a UA knockoff) clothing with me and thought that might be worth a try. It seemed to work very well. I was pleased with the results. The Under Armor is 80% cationic polyester and 20% spandex.

Please leave a comment if you have another solution to cleaning your camera lens when you don't have your cleaner with you.

What are the Best Seasons to take Photos during

I was out taking pictures of the White House, US Capitol, Jefferson Monument and other sites in Washington, DC.

I got up about 6:30 AM, sunrise was about 7:20 and I was in front of the White House to take some nice pictures with the sun still low on the horizon.

Since it is winter, the sun doesn't rise too high in the sky and crests the southern sky. Because of this the dramatic shadows of the rising and setting sun last longer allowing you to get more sunrise & sunset photos during the day. Winter is also a great time to take pictures because Christmas time is very colorful. Also, in my opinion, Snow is beautiful. I even saw some Colorado photos that were taken on an overcast snowy day and they were gorgeous.

The fall is also very picturesque because of the fall leaves. My Dad said that one of the most attractive scenes he ever saw were the "quaking aspens" in Colorado during the fall.

During fall and winter deer and elk have nice full racks. In the spring you might be able to get a couple shots of fawns.

Spring also has a lot of color with flowers coming into bloom. I'm disappointed that my Pentagon tour will not last until April so I can see the cherry blossoms. Cherry blossoms make photography easy in my opinion.

Summer is best for beaches. I'll let you tell me why.

If you have anything else about what season is best to take pictures in (like it is cold in winter) please leave a comment.

Tish Black and White

This photo is of my very attractive wife from last fall. As you can see she can wear an attitude. I took this picture of her without a flash. I then lightened it up some. I have one copy of this that isn't as grainy, but not as much contrast. They are both very good pictures.

Yamaha Wave Runner at Lake Martin, AL

Haven't moved to Colorado yet, so the Colorado photography will have to wait for now. In the mean time, here is a shot from my wife's point and shoot canon. This was taken at Lake Martin in Alabama.

Welcome To Colorado Photographer

Although most of the photos are of Colorado, since I am an airline pilot and an Air Force Reservist, I will have opportunities to post photos from other parts of the world.

I have been serving in the Air Force Reserves and been based in Alabama with trips to Oklahoma and Washington DC lately, so that is why the pictures of Alabama and Washington DC.

I will be moving out to Colorado in the summer of 2007, but I wanted to get a jump on setting up my Colorado Photography corner.

So until the Summer of 2007 I will try to keep you entertained with photos I've taken in Alabama, DC and who knows where else.

I'm excited about the opportunity to take pictures in Colorado. I went to school there at the United States Air Force Academy and will be moving back simply because that is where my wife and I would like to live. As an airline pilot I can choose where I want to live pretty easily.

What is really nice is I can see the front range of the Rocky Mountains from my Colorado home and even the Academy.

I can't wait to go crawling around the mountains again. I spent a lot of time in the mountains when I was a cadet and am excited about having my camera with me this time.

One of my favorite photos of myself is after being in the woods for a week after nearly starving to death during survival training (I was pretty lean then). Another favorite is one of me on top of Pikes Peak near Colorado Springs.

Please enjoy the pictures.
