Photography is a hobby for me, you can take these pictures just as well as I can. You just need some mountains and the right equipment. I shoot a Nikon D80 with a Nikon 18-135 lens. I have a 62mm UV filter on it to protect the lens and I also have a 62mm diffuser filter that I use for taking photos of people. Because I hike with my camera, I use a Tamrac Hip Pack. I do my photo editing on a Macintosh (I own two an iMac and a Macbook) and use iPhoto software (I upgraded to Aperture 2 and LOVE it). I've also added a speed light for indoor and low light shots.
Other items I would like to acquire eventually is a Nikon 18-200mm lens or a 70-300mm lens. The 18-200mm lens is very flexible and could be a one size fits all lens. Canon also puts out a nice camera, the Canon Rebel. It is smaller and therefore fits into bags better, but if you have large hands you may like the larger Nikon. The Nikon D40X is an excellent beginner digital SLR. If a D40X or D60 was available, I would have considered getting a D40X or D60 instead of my D80. The D80 offers some extra features, but beginners can usually get by with the cheaper D40X, or possibly the new Nikon D60.

Also, in packages, Nikon offers a 18-135mm lens which is more flexible than the Canon 18-55mm or 28-90mm lenses. I also own a Sony Cybershot (search for "point and shoot digital camera" to find the pocket camera that is best for you) I carry around to snap photos when I'm skiing or just playing. I like the fact it can do videos as well as snapshots.
